Social Media Etiquette: an Infographic

NOTE from CJ: this infographic is brought to you by Ivan Serrano, a business journalist and infographic specialist. Ivan was kind enough to also provide a second post on Facebook ads that will be published next month, so stay tuned!

From Ivan:

When Facebook was invented it was the first of its kind. Sure, Myspace was around, but Facebook offered a sophisticated exclusivity that Myspace just couldn’t offer. Along with its popularity, Facebook began to develop a personality: a public outlet to display the private life, first only for Harvard students, and then for college students only, and then, it became open to the public, and finally to businesses. Businesses soon found a pool of clientele to target via Facebook; it was a way to explain a brand in a simple yet creative way.

Now with the birth of a handful of other social media sites like Youtube, Google Plus, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Pinterest, Facebook is just another fish in the pond. However, don’t mistake it as being the same fish. In fact, as other platforms began to spring up, each site began to develop its own personality, and with that, its own unique platform for various audiences. It’s fundamental for businesses who want to expand to learn the right etiquette for each site, and don’t get lazy about posting the same message on every site – each deserves a different message, and in turn, you get to project your image more than a few different ways.
